Technical Assistance II
In the face of a challenging global investment landscape, the Ministry of Investment/BKPM is taking proactive steps to bolster Indonesia's attractiveness to international investors. With an ambitious investment target of 1,650 trillion Rupiah for 2024, the Ministry recognizes the urgent need for capacity building among its Investment Planning and Promotion Units. The workshop aimed to enhance the participants' understanding of investment project dynamics and equip them with the necessary skills and tools to conceptualise, package and promote investable projects, engage effectively with potential investors and financial institutions, and ultimately increase investment realization, particularly from the European Union.
Held on 7-8 March 2024 in Tangerang, the event was a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Investment and ARISE+ Indonesia. It brought together participants from the Investment Planning and Investment Promotions Units of the Ministry of Investment/BKPM, the Directorate of Trade, Investment, and International Economic Cooperation at the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas, and the Joint Office of Public-Private Partnership at Bappenas. With the diverse backgrounds of the participants, the workshop served as a platform to standardise the capacity of investment promoters and planners.
Sri Endang Novitasari, the Director of Investment Promotion at BKPM, emphasized the importance of the workshop, stating, "We need to understand investors’ and also banks’ perspectives regarding project feasibility, structuring, and financing so we can devise effective strategies to promote investment projects."
The training session was led by Pedro Pimentel, ARISE+ Indonesia's Investment Advisor, who has extensive experience in developing and managing international infrastructure investment projects. The two-day workshop covered a range of topics, including project feasibility, project financing strategy, large project financing, making contracts bankable, Indonesia investment promotion, project pitching, and case studies. The comprehensive agenda was designed to address the multifaceted challenges faced by investment professionals in attracting and securing global investment for Indonesia's growth and development.
Commenting on the workshop, one of the participants, Anindya Khrisma Sari, Investment Promoter at BKPM, said: "The extensive material provided during the workshop was instrumental in enhancing our understanding of investment project feasibility and effective promotion strategies. However, we hope that ARISE+ Indonesia can further facilitate us with more sector-specific or investor-specific capacity building sessions in the future. Each sector and investor has unique characteristics that we need to understand in order to target our efforts more effectively."
