Technical Assistance I

The next stop on our culinary journal is East Luwu Regency, an area in the eastern interior of South Sulawesi, which has the largest lake in Sulawesi, Towuti Lake (48 km wide), and the deepest lake in the world, Matana Lake (590 meters). In addition to being renowned for its lakes, this district is also known as one of Indonesia's fourth largest pepper producers, certified with Geographical Indication (GI).

Through the sixth webinar series of Indonesia's Geographical Indication Show (IGIS) 2022 campaign, we will learn about one of the GI speciality spices, the East Luwu Pepper.

Supply Chain Management and Logistics of GI products are fundamental to ensure the quality reputation and the capability to reach domestic and international markets. Being a local special commodity, Indonesian GIs are usually cultivated in the interior and/or remote areas of vast archipelagic Indonesia, posing a challenge for IG products to reach their consumers.

The webinar will discuss Supply Chain Management and Logistics with a case study of East Luwu Pepper. The webinar features the East Luwu Pepper GI Protection Community (MPIG) representative and prominent experts in geographical indication and logistics.

IGIS 2022 is an initiative under the aegis of the Directorate General of Intellectual Property of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, supported by the EU-funded ARISE+ Indonesia, aiming to increase public awareness of Indonesian Geographical Indication products through roadshows at ten selected Geographical Indication sites. Promotional and campaign activities during the roadshows include a mini webinar series and culinary shows.
