Indonesia has a particular interest in the Sistem Verifikasi Legalitas Kayu (SVLK), which constitutes the basis for legal wood certification used by the Indonesian wood industries. SVLK is recognized in the EU as equivalent with the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).
This has resulted in a need for training and information about SVLK certification and greater understanding of how to comply with specific requirements of the scheme.
The training is divided into two groups:
- The first group (22-23 June) is the small and medium-sized enterprises that have not yet applied for SVLK certification. The support will focus on the benefits of certification as well as the process the company must go through to be certified.
- The second group (24 June) consists of certified companies which have problems meeting the requirements a certification entails
The overall purpose of strengthening small and medium-sized enterprises is, among other things, to enable more companies to participate in public tendering processes where certification is mandatory. As far as the larger - and already certified companies - are concerned, it is a matter of supporting a scheme which gives companies better access to the export markets, where there is a strong focus on the legality of wood.
