This event followed an in-depth assessment of the country’s carbon markets conducted by ARISE+ Indonesia in late 2023. Key Indonesian government stakeholders, including representatives from various ministries and agencies, as well as key European partners with an interest in Indonesia's carbon market, gathered to discuss the report's recommendations in the context of the current post-election landscape. The workshop aimed to generate follow-up actions and pave the way for subsequent consultations with private sector stakeholders to identify priority initiatives for future action.

Workshop on the Framework for Notifying Import Licensing Requirements at the WTO

The Directorate General for International Trade Negotiations at the Ministry of Trade, with support from ARISE+ Indonesia, has developed an institutional framework to ensure Indonesia's compliance with its notification obligations regarding import licensing requirements at the World Trade Organisation (WTO). On 8 May 2024, a workshop was conducted to provide a comprehensive overview and discuss the procedural elements of WTO import licensing requirements. In addition, the workshop included a practical team exercise, in which participants worked together to identify specific import licensing requirements and prepare a detailed notification report for presentation, thereby enhancing their understanding and application of the WTO protocols.

The Ministry of Trade, in collaboration with ARISE+ Indonesia, conducted a training session for trade investigation officers from the Directorate of Trade Defense (DPP), the Indonesian Anti-Dumping Committee (KADI), and the Indonesian Safeguards Committee (KPPI). The session focused on the use of a newly developed tool for calculating the margin of injury.  The Ministry of Investment/BKPM and the European Union (EU) Delegation to Indonesia unveiled "The Attraction Plan for EU Investment in Indonesia" on Thursday, 25 April 2024 at the BKPM office. The launching event, organised with support from the EU-funded ARISE+ Indonesia programme, was officiated by Mr Nurul Ichwan, Deputy Minister for Investment Promotion at the Ministry of Investment/BKPM, and H.E. Denis Chaibi, EU Ambassador. Ms PN Laksmi Kusumawati, Director of Trade, Investment and International Economic Cooperation, representing the Deputy for Economy at the Ministry of National Development Planning (Bappenas), also provided insights during her address.
The Plan is developed in partnership with ARISE+ Indonesia to promote and attract a new wave of advanced and high-impact investments from Europe.

Capacity-Building on Quality Assurance for BPSMB Aceh and Palu

ARISE+ Indonesia has extended support to the Directorate of Standardisation and Quality Control (Dit. Standalitu) of the Ministry of Trade, facilitating a series of capacity-building activities for four Quality Testing and Standardisation Laboratories for Goods (BPSMB) under Dit. Standalitu's purview. These labs are located in Semarang, Karawang, Aceh, and Palu. The primary goal of these activities is to enhance the standards and conformity assessment capabilities of these laboratories, with a particular emphasis on advanced chromatography and spectroscopy techniques. The capacity-building program encompasses a comprehensive approach, including online training sessions, thorough document reviews, as well as on-site support and monitoring. The on-site assistance activities for BPSMB Aceh was conducted on 14-15 December 2023, and for BPSMB Palu on 18 December 2023.

This visit was undertaken to oversee and assess the results of HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point) training organized by ARISE+ Indonesia several months before. The training targeted Muntok Pepper farmers who hold Geographically Indicated Certification, extension officers from the Agriculture Service, and pepper exporters.

This pilot project will be conducted in a 5-hectare controlled pond, using nutritious feed to produce Pangasius (Patin). The pond is owned by the Aquaculture Production Center in Karawang. Improving quality and ensuring conformity with export requirements are expected to broaden access to the export market.

The Ministry of Investment/BKPM, in collaboration with ARISE+ Indonesia, convened a consultation with various ministries and agencies to discuss the carbon markets in Indonesia.
The discussion was chaired by the Deputy Minister for Investment Promotion of the BKPM, Mr. Nurul Ichwan. Key presentations were made by Dr. Divaldo Rezende, an International Expert in Carbon Markets, Green Bonds, and Sustainable Finance, as well as Mr. Edo Mahendra, the Special Advisor to the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment on Carbon Trading.

The Ministry of Trade, facilitated by ARISE+ Indonesia, developed a sophisticated web-based management tool called the Case Management System (CMS) in collaboration with Koltiva. This system is specifically designed to effectively handle trade remedy investigations. Following the completion of the CMS development, comprehensive user training sessions were conducted from 15th to 17th May 2023 for the MoT directorates and 19 May 2023 for the private sector. These training sessions were crucial in ensuring that both sectors are well-equipped to utilize and apply the CMS to its fullest potential.

The Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas, together with the Ministry of Cooperatives and MSMEs, with support from ARISE+ Indonesia, organised a workshop for the cacao cluster in Jembrana on 7 March 2023. The workshop aimed to discuss the possible pathways to enhance the Jembrana supply chain to global markets, especially Europe. The workshop was officiated by the Jembrana Regent.

The program includes visits to international institutions and in-depth training by Oxford Economics.

The Directorate-General for International Partnerships (DG INTPA) of the European Commission and the EU Delegation to Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam visited Nizam Zachman Jakarta Fishing Harbour and the Fish Quarantine and Inspection Standard Examination Laboratory (FQISE/BUSKIPM) to collect information and feedback on ARISE+ Indonesia's contributions to the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (MoMAF) in strengthening the quality assurance in the fisheries sector, including the laboratory's testing capacity, Monday (27/02).

The Ministry of Investment, with support from ARISE+ Indonesia, hosted an investment meeting on February 14 dedicated to the healthcare and pharmaceuticals sector, convening president directors and other senior representatives of European companies, embassies, trade and investment organisations, as well as the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Industry, and the Ministry of National Development Planning Ministry (Bappenas).

Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas, in collaboration with ARISE+ Indonesia, organised a workshop to present the Export Finance Study, Tuesday (24/01). The workshop brought together the key stakeholders in export financing from the government and private sector, including Indonesia Exim Bank (LPEI), Bank Indonesia, Ministry of Trade, private banks, export insurance companies, and other stakeholders to obtain views and feedback to ensure the study reflected Indonesia's context and export finance environment.

The development of the Indonesia Rapid Alert System (INRAPEX) website commenced in 2022.
