Technical Assistance II

Four Investment Project Opportunities (IPROs) in the Agribusiness and Fisheries sectors were showcased by the Ministry of Investment/BKPM during a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) held on Tuesday (18/07), with the support of ARISE+ Indonesia. The FGD gathered participants' views and feedback on the projects, bringing together European and Indonesian corporate executives, project owners, agribusiness counsellors, experts, as well as Indonesian and European financing institutions. The FGD was part of an ongoing partnership between the Ministry of Investment and ARISE+ Indonesia to develop the European Union-Indonesia Investment Attraction Plan, which is set to be finalised later this year.
Ratih Purbasari Kania, the Director of Natural Resources Investment Planning at BKPM, highlighted Indonesia's vast potential in the agribusiness and fisheries sectors, presenting four out of 69 available investment opportunities. The presented IPROs were:
- Corn Processing Industry for Animal Feed in North Sulawesi
- Processing Industry for Integrated Banana Plantation in East Java
- Seaweed Farming in South Sulawesi
- Integrated Capture Fisheries with Processing Industry in Central Maluku.
Ratih emphasized that these agribusiness and fisheries projects offer promising investment prospects in Indonesia's thriving food processing industry. Moreover, the IPROs are supported by pre-feasibility studies, providing potential investors with essential data to make well-informed investment decisions.
"In line with the President's directive to develop downstream industries, our investment opportunities are focused on the processing industries, to increase the added value of Indonesian agricultural and fisheries products," said Ratih.
The participants enthusiastically engaged with the presented projects. They discussed various topics, including financial feasibility, financing and investment schemes, incentives, and regulations related to local content requirements. The discussion session was moderated by Daniel Nicholls, ARISE+ Indonesia's Trade and Investment Policy Senior Expert, with assistance from Trio Wisudhato, ARISE+ Indonesia Trade and Business Development Expert.
José Ángel Molero Gonzáles, Trade Attaché of the Spanish Economic and Commercial Office in Jakarta, expressed his appreciation for the presentation of potential projects, which he found highly valuable for foreign investors seeking investment opportunities in Indonesia.
"Many companies in Spain, particularly those in the agribusiness and fisheries sector, actively seek investment cooperation opportunities, especially in Indonesia. Events like this are, therefore, extremely beneficial," said José.
According to Mr Gonzáles, a crucial aspect for European companies considering investments is a robust regulatory framework that can effectively reduce investment barriers and facilitate trade. Thus, he hoped that the collaboration between BKPM and ARISE+ Indonesia would address the challenges that have deterred potential European investors from investing in Indonesia.
Feedback from this FGD and those covering other sectors will feed into the European Union-Indonesia Investment Attraction Plan.
