Technical Assistance II
On 8th April, the Ministry of Investment (BKPM) and ARISE+ Indonesia held a kick-off meeting for the development of an EU-focused Investment Attraction Plan for Future-oriented Projects. The plan, which will be developed jointly with the technical support from ARISE+ Indonesia's Technical Assistance Team, will outline a strategic approach to attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in a new wave of future-oriented industries where EU companies and clusters are operating at the cutting edge of design and innovation. The specific sectors, subsectors and value chain segments will be selected based on a combination of quantitative and qualitative analyses yet will be grouped around core themes such as renewables, advanced manufacturing, digitization, sustainability and the circular economy.
Chairing the kick-off meeting, the Deputy Minister for Investment Planning, Mr Nurul Ichwan, commented, "We have high expectations for this good programme which will involve close collaboration between ARISE+ Indonesia and our teams here at the Ministry of Investment (BKPM), jointly contributing to strengthened business relations between the EU and Indonesia."
The plan will provide quantitative and qualitative assessments of Indonesia's investment offerings in the selected sectors, as well as benchmarking insights into other countries' approaches to attracting FDI and enhancing their investment enabling environments in the selected sectors. The plan will also provide important insights into outward FDI trends and drivers among EU clusters and companies expanding to ASEAN and Asia more broadly. Importantly, the plan will be designed to be implementable and include lists of new potential investors in the selected sectors, with key insights on each company that can be used as part of the Ministry's outreach and investment attraction activities.
This activity represents a part of renewed collaborative drive between the EU and the Ministry of Investment/BKPM to strategically identify and attract high-quality, future-oriented EU investments to Indonesia that deliver win-win scenarios. It will benefit Indonesia's economy, industries, environment, and citizens while engaging with innovative EU companies seeking new and sustainable opportunities in ASEAN's economic powerhouse.
