As part of the government's ongoing efforts to streamline national logistics costs, the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas has once again partnered with ARISE+ Indonesia to conduct a study on the national logistics cost. Following the previous policy study conducted at the macro level in 2022-2023, this new study focuses on the meso level, considering the characteristics of goods movement across regions in Indonesia. While the macro-level study provided an overview of national logistics costs, the meso-level study aims to offer a more detailed and comprehensive picture of the logistics cost structure by examining costs between regions and modes of transportation, thus enabling the formulation of more effective policies.
The Directorate of Trade Defense (DPP) at the Ministry of Trade, in collaboration with ARISE+ Indonesia, developed a tool to standardise the calculation of the margin of injury. Designed to ensure calculation consistency and efficiency, the tool supports trade investigators at the DPP, the Indonesian Anti-Dumping Committee (KADI), and the Indonesian Safeguards Committee (KPPI). Training sessions were organised to equip trade investigators and analysts with the skills to use this tool effectively. The development of this tool and the accompanying capacity-building programme aim to enhance the skills and capabilities of trade investigators, thereby strengthening Indonesia's ability to protect its exporters during trade remedy investigations initiated by other countries.

As Indonesia engages in regional and global economic integration through Regional Trade Agreement (RTA) negotiations, it is imperative to consider the impact on MSMEs and the potential benefits they could gain from an enabling trading environment. This is because MSMEs are the backbone of the Indonesian economy, where they represent 99% of Indonesian businesses and generate more than 50% of GDP. MSMEs in Indonesia create 92% of jobs for low-skilled workers, and offer opportunities for women in rural areas. By supporting the growth and sustainability of MSMEs, Indonesia can tackle unemployment challenges and promote inclusive economic development.
