Trade Defense Handbook Handover Ceremony
ARISE+ Indonesia has updated the Trade Defense Handbook to be WTO consistent, encompass recent WTO dispute settlement rulings, and conform to best international practices. The first edition was prepared by the EU-funded Trade Cooperation Facility in 2016. The updated Trade Defense Handbook will be incorporated into the training material for new investigating and trade defence officers. The handover is planned to be made by the Ambassador of the European Union to Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam to the Director-General of Foreign Trade, Ministry of Trade.
Trade Remedies Workshop
Trade remedy remained a vital trade policy tool for WTO Members and saw a significant increase. The WTO statistics recorded 427 global trade remedy initiations in 2020, an increase of more than 50 per cent compared to 2019. Anti-dumping remained the most frequently used instrument, followed by countervailing and safeguards. On 30 September 2020, stainless steel cold-rolled flat products from Indonesia were targeted in an anti-dumping investigation on imports by the European Union.
This workshop aims to give the Indonesian government and industry a clear understanding of EU trade remedy laws, policies, practices, procedures, and investigation requirements, enabling them to respond more effectively to trade remedy investigations initiated by the EU.
